Moving To-Do List
Sorry, but I haven't had time to mess with it yet in order to make it all fit, but that should give you an idea. I'll keep messing with it. Hopefully, it will fit by the time you end up reading this.
Anyway, The color code should be pretty self explanatory, but basically, the stuff in black is stuff to start on now and to have done before the 15th of August, which is the settlement date. The stuff in red is stuff that needs to be dealt with before we begin moving in. And then the other colors just go in order as far as what needs to be done next.
A lot of the different things need to be done simultaneously, and, while it looks like David has a ton less things to do, he gets to deal with the heavy stuff but also he gets to help me with my list when he finishes his stuff. Though, he works full-time, and I don't, so I have a lot more time to get the picky things done.
Also, we have to be moved out by noon the 31st of August, and, by this calendar, it looks like we're cutting it close, but the goal is to have things move along faster than this calendar dates them. But worse comes to worst as far as time goes, this budgets things out so they will be done on time at least. Though, like I said, our goal is to have time to spare.
That's Right. I even color-coded it. ^_^

Stress Post #1: Moving
Always good.
Now, onto moving. The last time I moved (about a year ago) was pretty stressful because it was right when school started and right after David found out that his employers lied to him and weren't actually going to hire him full-time. We should have seen it coming, but growing up involves a lot of crud like that. So he had to rush around to find a full-time job. He did find one, but for a month or so, it was pretty stressful.
Then there were a lot of problems with the basement (oh, little things... like say, flooding with raw sewage constantly) -- not to mention the landlord didn't understand that that was a big problem that needed to be fixed immediately. It was all just a wee bit stressful.
Luckily our family was there to help us when we needed them.
Though, this is a very awkward stage in our life. Maybe that is just how it goes. You first have your awkward stage, and then as you grow, another one hits you. It feels like just as I figured out who I was, I got thrown into another stage where there are two of us trying to figure out who We are. And David and I have known each other for almost six years now and dated for almost five years. We both know who we are separately, but like I said, now we have to figure out what we are together. That's fairly simple in high school and when you're still living with your parents. "We" at that point means boyfriend and girlfriend -- two kids who really like each other and want to spend time together, maybe even someday get married *eep, but that was so far into the future*.
In a few years, "we" could mean husband and wife, two people destined to share their lives together, who wish to be together forever, who travel and live independently of their parents, even raising a family of their own.
But right now, we want to spend time together and we want to get married. It's even more awkward because if we really wanted to, we could take care of ourselves independently. We both have jobs with insurance options, and we both have the ability to pay for the rest of our education, etc. And now, we're even buying a house. But of course, my name isn't on the lease because "what if?".
It seems like everything we do now is done with the hope that we will be together in the future, but with the caution that we might not be. I think that is the most grown-up thing to do rather than playing "us against the world" and rushing into everything just to prove that we're in love and we're right and everyone else is wrong.
I wish I could say the decision was as simple as not having the money or financial security to go through with it.
It's a very strange pull in either direction. I love David and David loves me and we want to spend the rest of our lives together. *aw, how sweet ^_^* So if we were, say, several years older and out of college, had known each other for only even a year or so, and felt that way about each other, getting married would naturally be the next step.
But we're not out of college. We're both even young enough to still be on our parents' health insurance plans.
Not to mention, most people that get married at our age fall apart like that *snaps fingers*. So we're doing the "mature" thing and waiting. But in the meantime, it's really weird trying to explain to people that I'm moving into a house with my boyfriend. And sometimes I do feel like it would be easier to just live like "normal" college students and stay with mommy and daddy until we are able to get married.
But then the issue comes up of David hating the idea of living with his family *which, to be honest, is a sentiment that I agree with as long as he is willing to work and make payments on where he wants to live*
The issue also comes up with the way that I feel. I love my family, but my stress, health, and happiness levels have become much better living on my own with David. I am glad, though, that we will be moving closer to them because I'd really like to figure out a way to help my mom with the house, which is actually easier to do when I'm not living there. Not to mention if David and I were living in different places, it would just mean that I spent half of my time where he was, and he would spend half his time where I was. Talk about counter-productive.
So anyway, I guess my wish is this:
I don't want to get married right now, and I don't want to stop living with David; but I'd sure as hell like to get my hands on a time machine.
Okay... back to moving.
I'm much more optimistic about this move for several reasons.
1.) The house will be ours.
This means we won't have to go through a crappy landlord if we want something fixed. It sounds like it would be a bigger bummer having to pay for the repairs, but trust me, after living with sewage in the basement for several months waiting for some idiot to fix his house, I'd gladly pay twice as much to just have it fixed asap if it was mine.
2.) David has a secure job this time around from the beginning, and even a possibility of a raise coming up in December. And he can always start looking for a different job if he decides the one he's at now isn't worth the commuting. Although, he discovered this Monday that commuting from our new house will cut off about a half hour of his hour-long commute. Very nice *thumbs up*
3.) We asked our parents to take a look at the house for us because, quite frankly, they are older and wiser than us. We are also close enough to our parents that they might actually be able to help us if anything goes wrong.
4.) Finally, we've now had a whole year to experiment with what we would like in a house and what we would not, etc, and, also, on how we would deal with issues with a house, which means we're on the same page, and we both have some experience of our own.
Also, as far as dealing with stress in the moving process, I have devised a Moving To-Do List (a wonderful habit that I have stolen from my mother -- maybe it's just an English major thing) Heh, it's a wonder I haven't made an outline for my life yet. *oh my GOD! What a great idea!*
I'll see if I can find a way to post it up here. It involves charts and colors though, so I may have a hard time posting it. I'm pretty handy with HTML, but it takes me a while, so i'll see first how well it posts with just a copy and paste from word.
