Ty and i did get all his English homework done though, so that is good. It's a little frustrating because i could do it by myself in about five minutes. But it isn't my homework and he needs to be able to do it. The hardest part is that it is his learning disability killing him on it, and not his laziness or anything like that.
I can read it to him and explain things to him, and he gets it. But if he has to read it himself, he doesn't get it. So most of last night, i went ahead and read everything to him, but next time I'm going to try to make it half and half and eventually get to the point where it is just him reading it. And then I explained it to him after I read it to him. And it's hard for him because he doesn't understand a lot of the vocabulary they use to explain things. So i have to explain what the words mean that they are using to explain what they mean.
I do really think that he understands a lot of the lesson now though. It just takes a lot of time and patience. I am very patient, and I will sit with him for as long as it takes, but like mom said yesterday, he leaves the house only expecting to be gone for an hour at the most and ends up staying at the townhouse for a lot longer than that.
It did take a little longer last night because we took a break so that Ty could help us put Halfie's cage together. But even that wasn't a very long break. I might try to get the townhouse made up so that he can bring Casper over on Friday evenings *which is our study time* so that if he ends up being here for a long time or over night on those days, Casper won't miss him.
Well, anyway, i also tried to explain to Ty that he needs to be home more but he just got annoyed because a lot of the time, he isn't home because of work and school and he feels like he can't really control that.
But i tried to explain to him that it isn't so much work and school that aggravates anyone, but the times that he is gone to hang out with his friends or his girlfriend. It is hard because usually if you have only a couple evenings off per month, you want to spend them with your friends. And you've lived with your family for over a decade and you just take them for granted and feel like you can spend time with them whenever you want, so why make the time?
And then usually the few times he is home, he gets yelled at or talked to or pestered about not ever being there. And he just hasn't figured out yet that he deserves to be pestered or talked to or yelled at about it. And that he does have control over coming home and making time for his family. I would say that he just needs to have the time to actually miss them, but that doesn't happen when you're living under the same roof especially if you are the one that is never there.
It's even harder since he needs to take care of Casper. But I do think that he has enough time; he just spends that time elsewhere with friends because he gets burnt out and just wants to go bowling or watch a movie with his friends. That's all fine and dandy, but when you have a family and a puppy to take care of, the family and the puppy comes first. Any friend who can't understand that isn't much of a friend. And any person who thinks that his friends should come first needs to be giving his puppy to someone who will take care of it and needs to be finding somewhere else to live. And if he can't do either of those things, then he needs to seriously reshuffle his priorities.
Anyway...
I love Ty and he is a wonderful hardworking young man with a huge heart. I just wish that he made more time for his family. But then again, that's something that we all need to work on now and again.
okay, as far as eating goes yesterday:
let's see...
- Ikea kid's size swedish meatballs w/gravy with mac and cheese and mashed red potatoes w/gravy and some chocolate mousse cake
- baked polenta and lemon wet cake
- chili with cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese and baked polenta *confession* w/some more lemon wet cake ^_^ not much, though.
- drinks for the day were lingonberry juice, skim milk, and water

Ty is a wonderful young man and very very lucky to have a sister like you. And I am very lucky to have a daughter like you who will take the time to help her brother. As for the family, we are pretty okay with him being gone and understand he wants to get out and he needs to have down time and mom and dad don't feel the need to have him around us more. We enjoy all of our kids when we can have them but realize that right now they are all busy with making lives for themselves. We've adjusted to having grown up children come and go and we try not to nag him, even though he probably feels like we do. We don't see him doing any school work, we don't see him doing the things we think he probably needs to do, plus we don't want him to take so much of his sister's time that she falls behind in her work or burns out. So maybe a little more communication would help. Mom will help him too if he needs it and have in the past, but the biggest issue is the puppy which has never been trained properly because of him being gone so much. He promised that HE would train the puppy, he would keep the puppy with him and he'd go everywhere with him and be his best pal. So far the puppy is peeing and pooing all over our house and it is constant. Trevyn was up taking him out in the middle of the night twice because he can't get himself regulated and dad has tried to teach him to go out too and stays with him but the poor puppy is confused and goes outside but goes to the bathroom when he comes back in. He left a stinky mess in dad's office, the family room, and the living room in just one day and we were putting him out almost hourly. We can't have the puppy sleeping with us and have him remember he is NOT our dog. The poor puppy is so needy for attention that he begs to be held and loved and of course Cadbury and Cocoa constantly want to remind him that he is NOT our puppy he is Ty's. It is going to have to probably come to the point where we allow Casper to be ours and give him the love he needs. But when we do that he will look at Ty differently and it'll break Ty's heart. Like kids, dogs are going to choose who they love more, someone who is an occasional parent or one who is always there for them. This weekend Ty left early Friday morning so that left Casper alone with us to feed and take out and give attention to. He doesn't sleep when Ty is not here and keeps either mom and dad up fidgeting or Trevyn awake, because if we put him in the kennel he barks and whines all night. Ty returned at 3pm Sunday and petted Casper, went upstairs to the bathroom or shower and came down and left at 3:45 so he was home 45 minutes stating that he'd be back in an hour to feed and spend time with Casper. We love Ty and love that he is taking class seriously and getting his sister to help him and he does work hard making money to save but there has to be a point where his puppy gets trained and can accompany him to some of his travels. Hopefully this spring when he goes to do landscaping he can take Casper and tie him up nearby. If he were housebroken properly he could go babysitting or to visit people more. I guess it is our fault because we thought he was ready to care for something like a pet, but he isn't. I hope he realizes that children take much more time and care than a dog, we don't have the luxury of sticking them in a kennel. Anyway, sounds like you are doing good keeping track of what you eat, snacking is my major pitfall.
